We have been growing grapes for winemaking at the farm since 1996. Most of our vines are grafted i.e. the trunk is from a variety desired for fruit production, while the root is from a variety which adapts the vine to our soil type, and protects against the root louse ( Phylloxera ). Some hybrids have resistance to the root louse, and can be grown from cuttings with little risk.
We can provide Vinifera or European Origin Grapes including Riesling, Traminer Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Gamay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, St. Laurent, Syrah, Muscat Ottonel, Zveigelt or Siegerrebe. ( These vines need to be grafted unless being grown in very sandy soils )
Newer Developed Varieties – Vidal, Geisenheim 318, Baco, Marechal Foche, Landot Noir, Chambourcin, Triomphe D’Alsace, Vivant, Vignoles, Precose de Colmar, Sovereign Coronation, L’Acadie Blanc, V63231, V65232, Traminette, KW 96-2, Hsansky-Sladky, Villard Noir, Melody. Many of these can be grown without grafting.
Rootstocks – SO4, 3309, 5BB, native Riparia, Riparia Gloire,. These rootstocks provide resistance to Phylloxera and adapt the vine to the site ( soil type ) and desired vigour.
These grapes can be grown from cuttings, or from grafted wood. which we can provide. Some potted vines will be available in June.
